Last week and on the last leg of their second European tour together, Aidan Baker and A-Sun Amissa visited the Drowning home town of Aarhus, Denmark.
Aidan Baker on guitar and vocal. Angela Chan on viola and vocal. Richard Knox on guitar. After warm-up by local guy Krishve, Aidan Baker and A-Sun Amissa played two concerts with the same personnel and instrumentation, but with very different results.
The A-Sun Amissa concert was an abstract yet climactic venture into vast modern classical drone. With the viola challenging the guitars and the soaring vocals of Angela, it seemed like a well-executed a mixture of György Ligeti and Earth.
The Aidan Baker concert was a soothing mellow ambient post-rock exercise, with an improvised feel to it, but reaching it’s emotional peak with some seemingly well-practised unison singing between Aidan and Angela.
The show was organized by LJUD and took place at Splab – a small but fitting venue hosted by The Jutlandian Art Academy. While more people had joined the Facebook event than actually showed up, it was still well-visited for a Wednesday drone show in Aarhus. Both acts played some great concerts and it seemed like everybody was happy about the whole thing.
Thanks to Christian from LJUD for pitching the release of Aidan Baker & A-Sun Amissa – Scarpe Sensée to the audience.
